US ZOOLOGIST WANTS CITY NAME CHANGED
An American zoologist currently in
Chengdu on an exchange programme thinks the city should change its name to "Panda City."
Jay Pratte, who is working at the giant panda research centre, thinks that
"chengdu" is too hard to remember and pronounce, and that "Panda City" would be much better. He added that it would promote the city's image internationally.
This vagarious proposal was surprisingly echoed by a local linguistic scholar.
A hotline has now been set-up to solicit feedback.

BUS DRIVER PROVOKES BLIND PASSENGER FURY
A bus driver's refusal to carry a blind passenger in Siping, Jilin Province, resulted in quite a ruckus.
Feng wanted to take the bus, but when it stopped and he attempted to board, the bus driver refused, and attempted to drive off.
Feng, however, was just part of a group of disabled

PSYCHIATRIC PATIENT JUMPS TO HIS DEATH
A mental patient at a hospital in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, escaped from his ward, climbed up to the
top of a nearby building and jumped to his death.
The relatives of the patient are demanding 300,000 yuan (US$37,000) in compensation, and have taken the matter to court.

Guangdong Tourism Board has introduced a new
system, called "tourism Invoice Stamp," to provide support for tourists who suffer accidents.
Tourists who are victims of accidents can apply for up
to 200,000 yuan (US$24,660) to cover medical expenses.
This is the first project of its kind in china.
Money is raised from tourism companies, who have to
contribute 0.3 percent of earnings to the project.
