Welcome to teaching in China

Foreign Teachers in China

Welcome to teaching English in China and the China TESOL Teacher Registry [CTTR]. This Website has been developed for the purpose of answering questions and to provide insight into the benefits and joys of teaching in China.  It is a  comprehensive resource site, not an advertorial.  Many subjects may not apply to those persons making original applications; conversely, the site is also a data base for those teachers already in China. Persons interested in teaching English and other foreign languages in China should refer to the list of Government approved recruiting organisations.

China implemented its reform and opening policies at the beginning of 1978 and shortly thereafter invited the help of a small number of foreign experts, mostly linguists, to overcome the deficiencies in the number of qualified foreign language personnel and teachers, as well as the low level of foreign language teaching at that time. Colleges and universities directly under the Ministry of Education invited 143 short- and long-term foreign cultural and educational experts in 1979 alone. Between the mid- to late-1980s, China initiated a program to adjust the professional structure by gradually increasing the number of foreign experts in science and engineering, and adjusting the proportion of both short- and long-term experts. The program to adjust the annual plan was supplemented by a separate plan which placed priority on key and urgent projects related to agriculture, energy and communications. Teachers Birthday Party

The number of foreign experts and teachers has increased dramatically over the past 20 years along with the rationalization of the professional structure. More than 1,200 units have registered and received credentials from concerned departments. The number of invited cultural and educational experts grew to 14,000 in 1995, a 31-fold increase on 1979. In 2002 the number of teachers was nearly 50,000, with the total number of foreign experts over 250,000.

The Chinese government has introduced a series of reform measures to scientifically promote the management of foreign experts and safeguard and guarantee the legitimate rights and interests of inviting units and employed foreign experts.

China TESOL Teacher Registry is a fully accredited and lawfully appointed Human Recourse Intermediary authorised by the Government of China, view certificate.
